Guru Bhakti Yoga

Rikhiapeeth is indeed blessed as it is here that Paramahansa Satyananda took Yoga Samadhi on the 5th of December 2009. To preserve the sanctity of this event, Peethadhishwari Swami Satyasangananda has dedicated the 5th and 6th of each month to Guru Bhakti Yoga. Each month since then, uplifting and inspiring ceremonies are conducted on the 5th to honor the day Swami Satyananda attained Mahasamadhi and on the 6th to commemorate the day he was given Bhu Samadhi by the Panchagni Vedi.

The Guru Bhakti Yoga Sadhana has developed with each consecutive month allowing the energy of Guru to be preserved and intensified, creating a strong channel or link for the transmission of Pujya Gurudev’s blessings. Spiritual and divine vibrations flow in abundance during this time and the grace, blessings and presence of Swami Satyananda is experienced strongly by all fortunate to participate. It is a very special time dedicated for connection, revelation and discovery of the all pervading Guru tattwas.

Now 2 years have passed since Paramahansa Satyananda attained Mahasamadhi and with Guru Bhakti Yoga sadhana each month we have felt that there has been a noticeable shift of energy as if a divine hand is guiding and shaping the events. During the chants and ceremonies the feeling of surrender becomes a reality and one experiences the truth in the belief that Guru is God.

Now, at ashrams and centers all over India and around the world, devotees, aspirants, well wishers, admirers and friends of Swami Satyananda are also observing these two days of Guru Bhakti Yoga, to honor Sadguru Sri Swamiji and get connected to his unlimited store of Divine energy. Worldwide the 5th and 6th is developing into two days of remembrance and worship of Guru where people can align with Rikhiapeeth and receive the immense benefits that manifest from this auspicious and most wonderful yoga.

Guru Bhakti Yoga is the yoga of remembrance. All acts throughout the day are intended to enhance your remembrance of Pujya Gurudev Swami Satyananda. It is through remembrance that channels for transmission are formed and He turns His gaze on us and blesses us. The sadhana outlined by Peethadhishwari Swami Satyasangananda is a simple combination of seva, service, prarthana, prayer and aradhana or worship.

On the 5th of every month:

• 5am: Guru Puja conducted at the Samadhi sthal to the chanting of Guru Paduka Stotram and Guru Stotram.

• Sri Lalita Sahasra Namavali havan followed by Sri Rama Raksha Stotram. Those who cannot chant this may do havan of Aim Hreem Kleem Om.

• As karma yoga, or seva, was one of the main sadhanas emphasized by Swami Satyananda and he established the tenets of serve, love and give at Rikhia, emphasis is given to collective karma yoga throughout the day. This very effective in creating awareness of Sri Swamiji.

• Chants of Guru including Guruvastakam, Guruvara Tumhin Bata Do, Satyam Chalisa, Guru Prarthana, Nivedana, Sadguru Mahima, Sadguru Vandanaa, Sivananda Mangalam and Deva Deva Sivananda.

• After 6pm Sri Vidya puja with havan of the mantra Om 1008 times with Svaha. Om havan is symbolic of matter turning into spirit which occurred here on this day on the 5th of December 2009. This havan generates the benefits which are attained from taking a dip in the holy waters of Ganga and Yamuna and visiting all the teerthas.

• In the evening Sri Rama Raksha Stotram is chanted by the sannyasins at Tulsi Kutir, the place where Swami Satyananda attained mahasamadhi on the 5th of December 2009.

On the 6th of every month:

• 5am: Guru Puja conducted at the Samadhi sthal to the chanting of Guru Paduka Stotram and Guru Stotram.

• Sri Lalita Sahasra Namavali havan followed by Sri Rama Raksha Stotram. Those who cannot chant this may do havan of Aim Hreem Kleem Om

• Emphasis is given to collective karma yoga throughout the day.

• Chants of Guru including such as Guruvastakam, Guruvara Tumhin Bata Do, Satyam Chalisa, Guru Prarthana, Nivedana, Sadguru Mahima, Sadguru Vandanaa, Sivananda Mangalam and Deva Deva Sivananda and kirtans dedicated to Pujya Gurudev.

• In the afternoon rudrabhishek with havan of Satyananda Gayatri mantra 108 times with svaha, followed by the chanting of the Satyananda Astottara sata namavali, the 108 names of Paramahansa Satyananda.

• The senior citizens of Rikhiapeeth receive their monthly stipend from the ashram and all present partake in the central teaching of Swami Satyananda “Give, give and give.”

• In the evening Sri Rama Raksha Stotram is chanted by the sannyasins at Tulsi Kutir, the place where Swami Satyananda attained mahasamadhi on the 5th of December 2009.

On special occasions Akhand kirtan of the maha mantra “Hare Rama Hare Krishna” is held at the Samadhi sthal from dawn to dusk.
