Message from Rikhiapeeth Blog

This blog is intended for aspirants known and unkwown to be inspired through the satsangs of Swami Satyananda to develop spiritual goals and ideals in their lives.

It is not a social networking site where readers can catch up with one another. Readers who wish to do that may avail of facebook and twitter. Readers who have views and comments about spiritual topics and want to pass them on to others may start their own blog rather than use this site because of its wide coverage.

Guru Poornima and Nada Yoga Course

For thousands of years Vyas Purnima or Guru Purnima has been celebrated as a day of worship of Guru. On this sacred full moon of July we can receive the grace and blessing of all Gurus who have ever lived, who are alive today, and those who are yet to be born.

During his stay at Rikhiapeeth Swami Satyananda did not ever conduct the guru puja here, as although millions all over the world saw him as their guru, he himself said, "I am foremost and will always remain a disciple not a Guru, it is discipleship that is important not Gurudom."

This year in 2010, after the Mahasamadhi, for the first time Rikhiapeeth will commemorate Guru Purnima and conduct the guru puja in honour of the disciple of disciples, Swami Satyananda who lived and breathed only for his guru, Swami Sivananda Saraswati. This year Rikhiapeeth, the tapobhumi of Paramahansa Satyananda will come alive with prayers and worship of Sadguru Swami Sivananda, Swami Satyananda as well as all Gurus of the universe who inspire our lives

Devotees who wish to offer their love and devotion to Guru and invoke the grace and blessings of Guru Shakti into their lives may register by phone and letter at the earliest.

The Guru Purnima celebration will commence on 23rd - 24th July and culminate with the actual Guru Puja from 7-11 am on the 25th of July.

In preparation for the sacred guru puja, a Nada Yoga Course (English) will be conducted at Rikhiapeeth from 15th - 20th July 2010. This advanced course gives participants from all around the world the unique opportunity to experience the ancient tantric technique of penetrating the deeper layers of the mind utilizing sound as a medium. These ancient techniques have been revealed by Swami Satyananda and are particularly powerful when practiced in the spiritually charged atmosphere of Rikhiapeeth. Sincere participants are welcome to apply for this unique course that offers advanced practical and theoretical classes along with ashram life experience.

For information and registration please contact as soon as possible as places are limited: Tel: 06432-290870/ 09304-488889/ 09304-799449.

Namo Narayan.
I feel humbled that Iam given this opportunity to ask a question to our param pujya Swami Satyananda Saraswati.I feel troubled by the idea of such controlling cosmic forces as planets and their making up of human mind , body and destiny. All events including ones ability to hold on to spiritual practices appears to be be apparently controlled by planetary forces the way the Hindu predictive astrology forecasts and it goes on with remarkable accuracy so much so that it is enough to frighten anyone who observes planetary movements carefully and their ghastly effects on human life , causing poverty ,accidents , incurable diseases to which very little control can be excercised. Worst is that it disables us sometimes from even taking up our spiritual practices. From my humble experience it is far easier to transcend pleasure than to transcend pain and it appears that the diagram of our horoscopes are irrevocable.I just wanted to know whether a belief in such cosmic forces is a very strong samskara or is there a perfect reality about it all.If the latter is true then what kind of an attitude should be taken to such predictions that no spiritual life or meditations will happen because of malefic planetary position and time? Then is it so that whatever people become/enjoy -asceticism , transcendence, state of laya , a great surge of gigantic will force are all determined by planetary position and the dasas they have to go through?

Uma’s, comment is the most valid and direct to date and merits a straight and honest answer. This question has been asked, but has been avoided by all those who wear Gheru.

In similar vein, what is the purpose of Yoga? Yoga has failed me. How can we practice yoga when our minds are overwhelmed by the problems that we face? One sits down for your daily Sadhana, but your mind is thinking of how to overcome life’s difficulties.

As Parahamsaji has said himself, taking up the practice of Yoga itself when calamities hit us is like trying to dig a bore well, to find water to douse the fire burning our house down. Surely, we have to address dousing the fire first. (i) Can we know what can douse the fire of the house?
Some people will not understand the sudden loss of child (all three children die in an accident or illness), permanent loss of job that pushes a family into penury and the wife has to prostitute here self so that the family can make ends meet. When we go to the Ashrams, we are asked to practice PM1,2, Yoga Nidra etc etc. Mantra diksha etc….let’s face it and put it bluntly. This will not help and will never help, if our minds our consumed by the anguish and misery we are in. (ii) so what is the point of the Guru or Yoga?

I have heard an equally cruel remark that we have to “under go our penalties” so that we don’t under go them in our next life. Well if the pain and miseries consume our minds then we cannot advance one step in spirituality because our minds are distracted by our problems and are minds are shattered. This is a permanent downward spiral. We need Sai Babas in our lives to lift the burdens. (iii) do you know of any?

Let us also be honest. When results don’t show, the little faith that we placed in god and guru is also destroyed. How many of us can attest that attending the Sat Chandi help us mitigate our problems or meet our desires?

This is only a question, perhaps all of you that attended met your desires and aspirations. But what about someone who has not? (iv) If Yoga/Nor Guru/Nor Tantra can help, what is the alternative? Suicide?

But if Gurus are neither approachable nor can be approached because if they are surrounded by millions upon millions of donors and pardesis, then the statement that God/divine/That can only be known through the Guru is patently disappointing. Even an atheist like me will have to concede that god is probably more approachable than the guru.

(v) Is there a guru for the little people? The people who come in earnest, middle class backgrounds put their efforts day in and day out but no reward is forthcoming? Either spiritual or material?
When I lay my burden on a Great Great Master: he said: “it is my problem now”. Since then, ( 5-6 years) things have only become bad to worse and even irreparable.
I remember reading somewhere that if a monk is dying or sick in the ashram, no tablets or medicine should be given, but taken elsewhere…let him die if he has to die in the ashram. Then where can we go for a little compassion and care? We mortals don’t understand this hard attitude.
Someone needs to explain how all this Bhakti, chanting, mantras, and karma yoga or for that matter yoga or Guru can overcome our problems when everything in life has failed us.

Dear Black_hand,

Personal experience can come only through practice.

Not saying it for the sake of it. But have been through what you are saying and found that Yoga is the only way and practice is possible...we are not so desperate at least in India
